An Indian friend of mine who I Blog with on another site was feeling down and singing her song of woe. The same old story we all go through here on Sulekha, how things have changed and her new Blog would not garner any responses. It is funny that I am the one who my friends cry to. I Blog on three Indian sites, two Spanish sites and two political sites. On each site I am lucky to get ten responses. It is largely my own fault because I am not a good responder. What I mean is I don't usually respond using a one liner tit for tat. I have often said that I would like credit for responding by the word not by the response, I just think the mentality of most Bloggers is one for one on responses. However I prefer to view them as word for word, six one line responses are equal to one paragraph response in my book.

So when my Indian friend started singing her song of woe I was literally laughing as she has not written a Blog in several years that gets less than 50 responses. She hemmed and hawed that this next Blog was going to be lucky to get 10 responses. Now remember 10 responses is a decent number in my book ( if you are sitting in my shoes). After about 20 minutes of this ridiculous conversation I was growing tired of it and suggested we bet. I generously gave her 20 responses rather than the "measly" 10 she was bemoaning. The bet was a box of baked goods.... something I really don't need but always want! If I won and she received more than 20 in ten days she would bake me a assortment of Indian baked goods. If indeed she won with 20 or less in the 10 day period I would labor in my kitchen and send her an assortment of baked goods.

Today is day 5 and I thought ......let's see how I am doing on the bet and went to look at her Blog...... she has over two hundred responses. I looked back and found that she topped the 20 mark in the first few hours....ROFLMAO. I guess the net result will be that I will have to be doing sit ups to prepare for my winning box of goodies, while she slaves in a hot kitchen and considers just how ridiculous her whining was.

So my friends I would like to ask what types of desserts I should request? What are your favorites? What travels reasonably well? I do like chocolate ( who doesn't?) I do like fruit pies and caramels. But what should I ask for? How about some help..... PLEASE? A chocolate devil food cake would be fitting although it is not Indian because I am surely the devil. I knew there was no way on Earth that I would lose this bet. My mouth is already starting to water..... Yep I am a devil.

Spencer,
How much can the reader drool?

Is this fair? So many chocolate pictures in ONE blog ?!
Btw, you won't get much in terms of "baked Indian sweets", aside from Plum Cake and Nan Khatai our eggless and um, butterful cookie flavored with cardamom, pistachios/cashews etc. These travel well.
Non-baked Indian sweets that travel well: Mysorepak, any dry burfi, chikkis (Indian nut brittles), a south Indian fried-flour chikki called Manoharam (yummmmm).
Hope this helps. Now that I wrote all those names of sweets, and looked at all the pictures - I better start exercising!
Priya.

Hi Spencer.......................
....how's that for a round about invitation?Hahahaha...............Btw....those sinful pics you've put up. Better remove them. Most of us could gain a few pounds just by looking at it.....
Well, I don't know much about baked Indian sweets because mostly all traditional sweets are either deep fried or soaked in ghee and coated with syrup.....the only baked yummy dish I know is Chenna Pod Peetha.....this you've got to taste. It is a speciality of Orissa and it is baked cottage cheese that is caramalized. But it doesn't stay well and has to be had fresh so if you want to taste it I'm afraid you'd have to make a trip out here

Hiya Spencer,

Wow man...who is this indian friend who knows to dish out a variety of sweets? She must be an amazing chef to know all this.
It also depends where the sweet is getting transported from (how many days it will take for the sweet to arrive). My suggestion is you ask for stuff that are dry & therefore easily packed & doesnt spoil even if exposed to different temperatures.
Lastly....agree with Indu that you do need to clamp that drooling mouth....lol!
I will run now before Aggayu's son explodes....
Bunty.

Spencer, I thought you are planning to visit India and SUMBA in particular?

If you eat so many sweets you must start working on your figure before you reach India
Too much sweet is not good for health, remember????????
